Nathan Carlen was born in 1978 and grew up in the San Fernando Valley. He started martial arts in an after school program in the fourth grade and has never left it. He began training with Grand Master Mark Cox in 1989 and currently holds a 7th Dan in American Tang Soo Do under him. In 1996 GMC made Nathan Head Instructor for America’s best and he is proud to still serve in that role still as well on the Board of Directors for the American Krav Maga Federation.

Nathan is a lifelong student of the martial arts and has been blessed with amazing teachers and training partners in multiple systems including Krav Maga Shotokan, BJJ, Kali, Silat, Hapkido, Aikido, Sambo and several others.

He has been a teacher and coach in the Los Angeles Community College District since 2004 and credits his success there with students directly to how the martial arts have taken him from being an insecure child to something else.

He currently lives in Chatsworth with his loving wife and daughter. Training is the priority after them.
